The Truth about Organic Pest Control

Most people enjoy our safe standard pest control service which utilizes the safest synthetic products on the market. We also recognize the need for organic pest control service and have developed a true organic pest control service. The terms “green,” “organic,” and “natural” have no official definitions. This means that any company can use these words however they choose—and without any regulations to adhere to. Contrary to what most people believe, “organic” does not automatically mean “pesticide-free” or “chemical-free”. In fact, under the laws of most states, organic farmers are allowed to use a wide variety of chemical sprays and powders on their crops. So, what does organic mean? Organic should mean: A Product derived from natural sources. It also doesn’t mean that the products are safe for internal consumption. However, to many pest control companies it means nothing. They are comfortable telling you their products are organic when they know they are not derived from natural sources. They will sell you on how safe their pesticides are and avoid the addressing fact that you want products derived from natural sources. Although we do also offer services that use synthetic products, when we say Organic, we mean organic.

At Green Pro, Organic means that our products used in our organic programs must be derived from natural sources, not synthetically manufactured. Also, these products must be applied using equipment that has not been used to apply any synthetic pesticides. With so many good options available to the customer we now offer Green Pro organic pest control services tailored to each client’s unique needs — whether you prefer natural products at your home or need to comply with food service regulations required for organic food facilities, we have organic pest control services that will work for you.

“Natural” Isn’t Always Better- But It Usually Is
Though too much of any pesticide can cause problems, the truth is that natural sources tend to be the best way to go for both the health of the environment and the health of your body. As it turns out, there are many natural pesticides in the world that are simply healthier to be around than synthetic ones. They are less likely to build up in the environment, and natural biological processes like decomposition tend to do a better job of breaking them down. As an added benefit, natural-based pesticides won’t cause insects to develop resistance as fast as synthetic ones, meaning they will be effective for far longer. Synthetic Pesticides can serve a vital role in controlling active infestations when applied strategically and responsibly by a certified applicator.

Top Natural Insecticides You Can Count On

When looked at from a case by case basis, some pesticides are simply better for your body to be exposed to than others. The two natural pesticides below have been thoroughly tested by scientists, and have been found to be some of the best possible ways to keep insects in check while also keeping both your body and the environment as healthy as possible.

Cedar Oil
Cedar oil comes from distilling oil from the wood and needles of the cedar tree. It has a wide range of benefits, including the ability to keep insects out of your garden. To use this oil, you can simply buy a cedar-oil based insecticide and spray small amounts where you are having problems. Cedar oil is toxic to many insects, and the pungent odor of the oil is sufficient to keep most bugs away.

Borates have Boron molecules that interfere with a pest’s metabolism. Because pests cannot excrete excess boron as humans can, the boron builds up in their systems and ultimately interrupts the normal chemical process of transforming food into energy. So, by ingesting Boron, the insect is unable to extract nutrition from its food and effectively starves to death. Humans, pets and other living things don’t share the risk because they are able to excrete excess boron from their bodies.

Example: Pyrethrin (pronounced “py-REE-thrin”) is a natural organic compound derived from Chrysanthemums, a family of flowering plants. This compound contains insecticidal properties that are very effective against a variety of pests. Unfortunately, Pyrethrin insecticides are contact insecticides and do not have any proactive preventive residual benefits like other natural or synthetic pyrethroids.

The Truth about Synthetic Pyrethroids (Pesticides)

Synthetic Pyrethroids—meaning they are man made and commonly referred to as Pesticides—are also effective pest control products. Most of our customers prefer these products because they are safe when used properly by licensed professionals and hold up much better in the harsh environment of Las Vegas. At Green Pro we do not consider these products Organic, however, since synthetic pesticides work just like pyrethrin (and are based upon the naturally derived compound itself), most companies will classify these synthetic pesticides as “green” or “organic” and include them in their green services which is plain dishonest to the customer. As stated before, synthetic pesticides do have an advantage over pyrethrins and some generic natural products because they have a much better residual affect which means the product will still be effective after it has dried and continue to provide a protective barrier against insects. Fortunately for you, Green Pro pest control has discovered natural mixtures that have longer residual then most other common organic pesticides. These new mixtures have now proven very effective against Las Vegas pests and come with our 30 day guarantee.

Organic Pest Control: Common Questions

Safe Organic Treatment Safe for You and Your Family

Are your products truly Organic?
When Green Pro says a product is “natural,” we mean it literally. All of the products we use in our organic program are actually naturally derived and do not have any synthetic properties. Please note that “Organic” in pest control doesn’t mean the products can be safely consumed internally.

What kind of natural products does Green Pro Pest Control use?
Our organic products are derived from various combinations of essential oils, such as Cedar, cinnamon, clove, cottonseed, peppermint, lemon grass, citrus, and the aforementioned pyrethrin; borate, a mineral; and diatoms, which are salt- or freshwater algae. We evaluate your pest problem and use the product best suited for it. We also use separate equipment in Natural Choice programs to avoid mixing organic products with synthetic pyrethroids.

Does an organic pest control service only refer to the products? What else do you do?
Applying a product to a home or building is only one piece of the pest control puzzle. We follow a strict IPM (integrated pest management) approach that outlines five key steps and four levels of control, the last of which is the use of product. Before we apply products, we are inspecting a home and determining other control measures to recommend or implement that will greatly help in gaining and keeping control. For example, making sure that harborage areas around the home are eliminated (i.e. overgrown vegetation and leaf litter). We also look for ways to deny access to the home by inspecting weather stripping around doorways. Green Pro implements a comprehensive scientific approach to pest control.

Am I able to use an organic service for the inside of my home and conventional service on the outside?
Organic services include treatment for the entire inside and outside of a home, but we can customize your plan if you have particularly stubborn pests. We’ll work with you to create a plan that uses both our green and traditional approaches.
